National Magnet Nurse of the Year™ Awards

The American Nurses Credentialing Center invites you to submit a nominee for the second annual National Magnet Nurse of the Year™ awards program. The National Magnet Nurse of the Year award recognizes the outstanding contributions of clinical nurses in each of the five Magnet Model components:
  • Transformational Leadership
  • Structural Empowerment
  • Exemplary Professional Practice
  • New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvements
  • Empirical Outcomes
Criteria and Eligibility
  • Regardless of size, setting, or location, only ONE nominee award submission will be accepted from a Magnet®-recognized organization or system. The nominator will assign the nominee to one of the five Magnet Model components during the online submission process.
  • The RN nominee MUST be a clinical nurse primarily responsible for direct patient care at a Magnet-recognized organization or system. There are no requirements for tenure, hours worked, or location of work, as long as the unit/area is part of the Magnet organization.
  • The nominator's online submission MUST include:

    A 500-words-or-less letter of endorsement from the chief nursing officer of the nominating Magnet organization or system describing why the nominee should be chosen as the National Magnet Nurse of the Year in the designated Magnet component. The letter of endorsement should be written on official organization letterhead and must include all contact information for the chief nursing officer.

    The nominee's resume that outlines his/her credentials, educational background, work experience, professional activities, publications, presentations or projects, and full contact information.

    A narrative essay (written by the nominator) of 500 words or less demonstrating:
         - The contribution(s) the nurse nominee has made in the designated Magnet Model component
         - How the nurse nominee's contribution exemplifies excellence in the designated Magnet Model component
         - The resulting nursing impact in the organization, region, or nation
  • There are no entry fees for award submission.
Deadline Date for Submission
Completed nomination submissions MUST be received by 4:00 p.m. EDT on May 25, 2012. Winners will be notified by August 2012.

Please note: only completed applications will be reviewed.

Award Ceremony
The National Magnet Nurse of the Year awards will be presented during the ANCC National Magnet Conference® in Los Angeles, CA (October 10-12, 2012). In addition to an all-expense-paid trip to the conference, award winners will be presented during the plenary session of the opening ceremonies and will be featured in the "Profiles of Excellence" section on the ANCC Web site. In addition, award announcements will be published through local and national press releases.
